The Roman empire was very strong and lasted for many generations. They were the most powerful force of their kind, so how did their empire collapse? Between the years 46AD and 419AD the Romans lost a lot of land to small Germanic tribes. The Romans had stretched their borders and relied on slaves for most of their work. They spent too much on military purposes and their government was unstable. By spending so much, they ended up draining their reserves and eventually the 'barbarians' defeated them.
