Investors buy shares from the stock market. They buy shares in different companies and hope for their value to increase so their shares would be worth more than the price they bought them for. Investors can make a lot of money buy purchasing a whole company or owning small parts of one. The value of the shares grow faster based on how fast the company they own grows. If the value of the company decreases the share is worth less and the investor would have lost money.
