Planes are a large part of travel but how do they stay in the air? Planes stay in the air due to the fact that their engines are designed to move them forward at high speed. That makes air flow quickly over the wings. The wings push the air towards the ground making a strong force which lifts the plane. This is known as lift. Thrust pushes the plane forward. It is made by the plane's propulsion system. Drag is the force that opposes the aircraft's motion through the air. Weight is the force that makes a pull on the plane bringing it down. Once these are all put in place at the same time the plane flies.
